Hello fellow lovers of forro!

Due to many requests, I am offering another forro workshop!

This is a two hour workshop 2 - 4pm designed for beginners or for those who never danced forro before.

Please come and join us! Afterwords we are going out to dance with a live forro band :)

FORRO WORKSHOP FOR BEGINNERS

Forró
A dance out of Northeast Brazil. It is danced all over Brazil, and even in New York City. Some people say that the word "forró" comes from the English words "for all", which meant that everyone was welcome to the parties organized by the English, who were building roads in Northeast Brazil, and holding parties for their Brazilian employees. But the word "forró", probably comes from the word "forrobodó", which meant the popular parties powered by music, dance and "cachaça". A Forró band is usually comprised of an accordion, a zambumba (drum), and a triangle. In New York City you can dance Forró, listen to great music, and mix with Brazilians many nights during the week.

For the men, you will learn how to lead your partner. You will learn how to dance to the different rhythms of forro music, and will have a chance to practice the steps with different partners in class.

After you learn the basic steps you will learn some choreographed movements to use on your own when you are dancing forro with your friends. Always remember that the more you practice what you learn in class the more you get out of your next class. The most important thing is to dance, smile, be happy and express yourself through the movements that you learn in class.
